Seahorse Cards

Who doesn't love seahorses??? So pleased to see the Seaside Notions Stamp Set in the new 2019/2020 catalogue.

Today's cards are all similar, just different background ink colours.

To create the background I trimmed watercolour paper and used a brayer to add the colour, deepening the colour at the top. I then lightly spritzed with water, used a pipette to add a few bigger drops of water and pressed with a paper towel to dry off. When it was completely dry, I stamped the  coral in the coordinating colour.

The seahorses and shells were Silver heat embossed and I die-cut lots of seaweed and shells from Smooth Sailing Dies and Under the Sea Dies with Whisper White.

I then trimmed 3 pieces of Vellum 3 1/2" wide x 2 1/2" high and used scissors to cut the shape of the sand. I cut a smaller piece for the top layer, then turned the other piece upside down and added behind the first.

Finally die-cut the Stitched Rectangles from the largest and fourth largest dies and mounted to create the frame. All other pieces were slipped in behind and between the vellum, and the searhorses were mounted. Finished off with some rhinestones and a few coloured gems.

Hexagon Shaped Cards

Today I decided to have a play with my Scan n Cut and design a hexagon shaped card. I started with the card base (Whisper White THICK), then I wanted a 1/2" mounted outer edge and finished with two inner layers with stitching inside (all Whisper White). With the piece leftover from the outer edge layer, I used this for the 5 1/2" square card.

This is how I designed it all in CanvasWorkspace:

I embossed the outer layer and 1st layer with the Subtle Embossing Folder and mounted both on the card front. I kept the top layer clean (also mounted) and only gold embossed the sentiment.

Next I assembled the flower with the new Pressed Petals Specialty Washi Tape, die-cut some leaves and the flower centre with Gold Foil from the Magnolia Memory Dies, and some Whisper White floral sprays from the Frosted Bouquet Dies. I added a Gold Faceted Gem to the centre of the flower.

I finished off the card with a Gold Foil butterfly (punched from the Butterfly Duet Punch) with a few pearls and white ribbon.

For the second card, I used a 5 1/2" square card base. The first layer is 5 1/4" square and embossed with the new Scripty 3D Embossing Folder.

Next it got a little tricky - I wanted the stitching around the edge of the hexagon I had leftover from the border of the first card so for the first time I used the single stitched die from the Stitched Nested Labels Dies and die-cut around the inside of the entire hexagon .... and it worked lol I then decided to emboss with the Layered Leaves Embossing Folder.

To assemble the card, I wrapped white ribbon around the Scripty layer and tied off in a bow and attached to the card front. I then mounted the hexagon centrally and attached the flowers etc as per the first card.

Lastly, I gold embossed the greeting on a Stitched Nested Label and attached over the hexagon. Both greetings came from the Tasteful Textures Stamp Set.

I hope you found this tutorial helpful.

Cheers for now,
Gail xx
